WinMX

Download Now
WinMX is a free file-sharing program. It allows you to connect, download, and share with many other users through the WinMX Peer Network. Features include multi-sourced downloading, auto-complete, fully decentralized chat and many others.

On September 13, 2005, Frontcode Technologies received a cease and desist letter from the RIAA asking them to implement filters to make it impossible for users to download copyrighted material from WinMX, or shut down. Under the threat of litigation, on September 21, 2005 the network and the WinMX homepage were confirmed offline.

WinMX users are suggested to either apply a patch which would connect them to a user-driven WinMX network, or move on to a decentralized file sharing network such as Gnutella or the eDonkey network.

Scour Exchange

Download Now
Scour Exchange (SX) is a digital file collection and management utility that connects the user to the Scour community, in which they can search, select, and download files from both selected sites on Scour and lists that are shared by other community members. When originally released, Scour allowed users to collect and share multiple digital file formats, including MP3, Video, and graphics.

After being sued for facilitating the illegal exchange of music, image and video files, Scour, Inc. declared bankruptcy October, 2000. The Scour Exchange and the spidering engine that brought content to the Web site was shut down in November, 2000. In December of 2000 CenterSpan purchased the assets of Scour, Inc. with a goal of relaunching Scour as a legal source for music, video and images.

Without the central server in place, users of old Scour Exchange can no longer connect to each other. A limited beta testing of the new Scour Exchange was begun in March, 2001. A Scour Exchange fee-based service was targeted for launch in the second half of 2001.

Morpheus is a full-featured P2P file-sharing application that allows users to search for all types of digital media across the MusicCity Network. Morpheus is neither central server-based, like Napster, nor based on the Gnutella file-sharing protocol. The program uses a proprietary peer-to-peer protocol to share files among users on the network.

Morpheus offers advanced features such as playlist creation and media management to easily organize your file collection. It also offers an embedded Microsoft media player for audio and video playback, instant messaging, and CPU utilization throttling. The program automatically resumes broken content streams by finding another source. Morpheus also simultaneously transfers content files from multiple sources for fast downloads of large files, even from users with slower connection speeds.

Morpheus Preview Edition 1.3.3.1 and later utilize open protocols established by the Gnutella developers, and enables users to directly communicate with each other and search for any type of digital file across the network
